Juliana Rotich is a Kenyan technologist, entrepreneur, and social innovator best known for co-founding Ushahidi, a global platform for crowdsourcing crisis information. Her work has established her as one of Africa's leading voices in technology, connectivity, innovation, and social impact.

Juliana Rotich's passion for computing began during her school years in Kenya. This passion led her to pursue a degree in Computer Science in the United States. After graduation, she worked in telecommunications and data management roles at organizations such as Sprint and InterCall.
She later returned to Africa with a mission to leverage technology for social impact, innovation, and development.
In 2008, following Kenya's post-election violence, Rotich co-founded Ushahidi, which means "testimony" in Swahili.
The platform was designed to crowdsource and map reports of unrest and violence in real time. What began as a response to a national crisis evolved into a globally recognized open-source platform used for crisis response, election monitoring, disaster relief, and humanitarian coordination.
Today, Ushahidi has been deployed in more than 160 countries worldwide, including Haiti, Syria, and Nepal.
Rotich also co-founded BRCK, a Nairobi-based technology company that develops rugged, battery-powered Wi-Fi routers designed for regions with limited infrastructure and unreliable power supply.
By 2019, BRCK had become one of the largest public Wi-Fi providers in Sub-Saharan Africa, helping bridge the digital divide and improve internet access across underserved communities.
She also played a significant role in Kenya's innovation ecosystem through her involvement with iHub, a pioneering technology hub supporting developers, entrepreneurs, and startups.
Beyond entrepreneurship, Rotich has advised international organizations on data-driven development, digital inclusion, technology policy, and ethical innovation.
Her advisory contributions have included Microsoft's 4Afrika initiative and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation's AI Ethics Board.
In 2019, she received the German Africa Prize from former German Chancellor Angela Merkel in recognition of her outstanding contributions to innovation, democracy, and digital transformation across Africa.
